Promoting Democracy and the Rule of Law (WP2)
As part of the Jean Monnet Network EU-VALUES Network, we are currently conducting a large-scale expert survey to assess global perceptions of the European Union’s external policy, with a particular focus on its core values: democracy, the rule of law, and human rights. This initiative represents one of the first comprehensive global assessments of how international experts view the EU’s role in advancing these principles.
The survey results will provide valuable insights into the effectiveness, challenges and opportunities of the EU’s instruments for promoting democracy and the rule of law, particularly in its Eastern and Southern Neighbourhoods. Key objectives of this research include:
Raising global awareness of the EU’s mechanisms for supporting democratic governance and legal frameworks.
Stimulating discourse on the EU’s role in strengthening democratic institutions and legal protections.
Exploring the tangible impact of EU cooperation instruments on citizens’ daily lives worldwide.
Evaluating the potential success of the Multilateral Investment Court System.
The results of this survey will be made publically available, and will shed light on how the EU’s commitment to democratic values is perceived globally and what this means for its future policies and engagements.
