Euro-Asia Summer School 2024: Bridging Continents for Future Global Governance
The 16th Euro-Asia Summer School, themed "Global Values: European and Asian Perspectives on the Future of Global Governance," is set to run from 26 August to 6 September 2024. This prestigious programme is organised by a consortium of leading academic institutions: the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies (Belgium), Hitotsubashi University (Japan), Seoul National University (South Korea), and the Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals (Spain). This programme is proudly supported by the EU-VALUES Network, and we are excited to bring you more updates as the initiative launches.
The summer school aims to unite students from across the globe, providing a platform to delve into critical global governance issues through comparative perspectives. This initiative promotes intercultural dialogue and collaboration, empowering young scholars to contribute meaningfully to global governance discourses.

Prof. Kazuhiro Fukazawa (HU): “Trade and Sustainable Development Chapters in EU Trade Agreements with Asian Countries”.
Prof. Atsushi Yamada (HU): “Japan's Political Economy: Then and Now”.
Prof. JeongHun Han (SNU): “Elections in Korea and EU”.
Prof. Byun Oung (SNU): “Korea Japan Cooperation in the Mirror of Europe”.
Prof. Maiko Ichihara (HU): “Disinformation and Democracy”.
Prof. Yeongseop Rhee (SNU): “Financial Crises in East Asia, Europe, and the World”.
Prof. Hyuk Jeong (SNU): “International Development: Sustainability”.
Students will also take part in a field trip visiting the Korean De-Militarised Zone, and the Gyeongbokgung Palace of the Chosen Dynasty.

Dr Gustavo Muller (KUL): “The European Union as a Global Governance Actor: values and interests”.
Dr Laia Comerma (IBEI): “China's influence in the redefinition of EU trade policy and global economic governance”.
Dr Gustavo Muller (KUL): “Norm Diffusion in Europe’s Inter-regional Relations”.
Dr Laia Comerma (IBEI): “The normative impact of the Belt and Road Initiative in Europe”.
There is also the chance for students durnig this week to visit the European External Action Service, the European Parliament and the House of European History, as well as the sights of Leuven.
By the end of the summer school, participants will have developed a nuanced understanding of global governance issues and established a network of peers and mentors from around the world. It promises to be a transformative experience, equipping young scholars with the knowledge and connections needed to address global challenges collaboratively.
